The Letter C

The Letter C

Looks like a tilted smile.
It's as pretty as a rainbow.

It may be a grade in school,
But it's also a power cord.

It's a difficult, steep ramp,
But it makes a snake
That could conquer it.

2 Four-Line Stanzas

From the minute you walked in,
You sat down with you're ugly grin.
No matter how much they're paying,
We still don't know what you're saying.

Sittin' there with that disgusting hair,
It's like you tried to get by with a scare.
It's like you couldn't yell any louder.
No one really allowed her.

Haiku

No one really cares
We don't speak your whack language
You should just give up.

Why She's Damaged

There were always rumors about Bremerton Washington. Rumors about how the people there were so damaged and always looked like they’ve been living on the streets. My grandparents grew up in that town. Every time we would visit, I would get this weird sense. The smell hit me as soon as I walked out onto the streets. It was sickening and I couldn't help but gag. The scent choked the air. I took breaths through my mouth, trying to spot the source of the smell. The town just never seemed normal.
My parents wanted to move there in the summer to be with my grandparents during their last years. That’s when I realized.
My life was going to be completely different and I would have to live in that town.

We pulled up in the driveway and got out of the car. There was that smell. The smell that made me want to vomit.
“Well Macy, welcome to your new house for the next few years.”
my Mom said to me as she was taking all of the luggage out of the car. I shoved my suitcase out of the car and headed straight for the house. I stepped on the first step on the porch and I could hear the crick sound it made. The whole porch was so rusty and I could hear every high pitched screech that the steps made. I took my first step in the house. I wasn’t used to how the house was made. It was made in the early 1900’s so it was definitely old.
I made my way up to my room. I set down my bags and wandered around. The door creaked close by itself. The house was dead silence except for the creaks. Sharp shadows roamed around the room. At the corner of the room there was a long slim mirror. I walked over and took a look at myself.
I had to take in that this was actually real and I was going to live here. I shut my eyes softly. I slowly opened them. Behind me was a little girl who was covered in blood and a dirty dress. I startled myself and jumped up screaming for my life. I swooped back to turn around and she was gone. Just like that. Right when I opened my eyes there she was. She look damaged and like she wanted something from me.
My dad comes in my room yelling my name.
“Macy?! Why were you screaming what’s wrong?”
I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t of told him I just saw some random girl in the mirror. But I definitely saw her.
I wasn’t just seeing things. That girl was there and she was real. I could feel it.
“Nothing’s wrong Dad. Something just fell from the book shelf and scared me.”
I said to him.
"Macy, I don't think a book falling would make you scream that loud."
My Dad said concerning.
"It's fine Dad, don't worry about it. Go help Mom unpack."
I replied.

I spent the rest of the day unpacking and studying the room. I read the alarm clock on my bedside table and it was already 7:03 p.m. I heard my mom yelling for me to come downstairs to eat dinner.
The whole dinner was completely silent. No one said a word. Not even my little brother Max because I could tell he didn’t like the house either.
After dinner, I took a shower and got ready for bed.
The whole night I was tossing and turning. I couldn’t fall asleep whatsoever. I tossed over to my left seeing my alarm clock and it was 3:34 a.m. I kept hearing these voices in my head. The voices were haunting me and I couldn’t get them out of my
head. The echoes in my head made me cringe.
I tossed to my right and immediately saw the girl again. I gasped at how her appearance was. Before I could even think about opening my mouth to scream she grabbed me and put her hand over my mouth. She was so strong it didn’t even seem real. I was struggling and kicking everywhere. I was trying everything to escape from her.

I looked up and saw her red beady eyes.

As I looked at her, she turned and looked at me with her horrific stare. Her eyes made me seem like I was in a trance. There was no question that this girl was not human. There was something about her that could make the hair stand on the back of your neck. I wanted to run for safety, but my feet would not allow me to because she was holding me so tightly.
As soon as I could release my arms from her, she was gone. She disappeared again just like that.

I didn’t sleep the rest of the night. It was morning and I got out my laptop to start researching. I had to figure out who this little girl was. I was getting flashbacks from last night. When she was holding me I remember her saying “the Reeber” over and over again.

I typed the Reeber into my laptop and searched it. I couldn’t find anything. I was so frustrated because I needed to do something about it. I searched and searched and couldn’t find anything. I searched words that were similar and sounded like it. I typed “the Reeker” and there it came up with the picture of the exact same girl. It was her. I found her.
Every night I would find out more and more about her from research and her nightly visits. Every visit would just damage me more. I felt like I was in a trap and I definitely needed to get out of it.
That night I slowly got out of my bed. I got up and was walking out of my room trying to find her. It was difficult avoiding the squeaky noises the floors would make.

I slowly popped my head out of my door and I saw a figure. The figure was dark and black and it was getting closer and the shadow was getting bigger. It was her. Before she could see me, I swooped my head back in and shut my door as quiet as I could.

Every night I would get up to see her paths and where she goes at certain times. I came to a conclusion that exactly 3:34 a.m. She roams through my hallways entering my room. I can never hear her coming though. So this time I had to stay awake.

It was the next day and I was downstairs eating dinner with my family. I couldn’t stop thinking about how tonight was the night I was going to destroy her.
I walked upstairs and noticed my legs shaking. I was having mixed signals. I couldn’t tell if I could pull this off or I would just be getting myself into serious danger.

My dad doesn’t know I took all of the knives from the kitchen that night. My plan was to hide them under my mattress and when I saw her appear coming up from my bed I would grab them from underneath and end this nightmare. I was tired of being scared.
I hoarded monster energy drinks, coffee, candy, and all sorts of things in my room to keep me awake. I also had loads of water.
I glanced at my alarm clock. It was 3:32 a.m.
I got under my covers and pretended to fall asleep so she thought I was asleep.
Trying to not freak out was the hardest thing for me. I opened one of my eyes slightly and there she was entering my room. I had to calmly think to myself.
“Be quiet Macy. You can do this.”

She veered her way across my room to my bedside. I was facing away from her. I saw the shadows on the walls and I saw her arms about to grab me.
Right before she grabbed me, my reflexives jumped and I grabbed the knife from the mattress.
With all of my might I turned around and stabbed her right near her heart. She looked down in shock. I jumped out of my bed running to the other side of my room getting prepared for anything she could encounter me with.
“You’re gonna regret that!” she screamed at me
She said to me in the most horrific tone I’ve ever heard in my life. She started coming at me. Right before she almost got to me I stabbed her again in her shoulder and sprinted back to my drawers.

I froze looking at her as she was looking at me. Sweat poured down my body as I stayed still as possible. It looked at me up and down. I tried not to breath but I knew it was impossible. I felt cold tears start to stream down my face.
I opened my mouth but no scream came. My legs felt like jelly and I couldn't move. I closed my eyes tightly and balled my fists knowing I might have to fight for my life. I felt a lump in my throat but ignored it. My teeth chattered in fear but i tried to keep my mouth shut. No matter what nobody was coming to save me so I was going to die.

At this moment I gave up.
She came running at me and pushed me into my drawers. There were tons of glasses of water on there. I was slammed up to it making the drawers shake. As they were shaking the water started to fall.
The glasses of water fell and poured down on her. I heard something sizzle. I looked up to realize the water was burning her flesh.
The water was killing her.
While she was struggling from the water she kept screaming “WHY?!” over and over again.
I stood up. She wasn’t in front of me anymore. She was gone. I did it. I killed the Reeker and she is disappeared forever.
2 weeks later……
It’s been two weeks since the incident happened with the Reeker.
My parents didn’t hear a single thing that night and neither did my brother.

There will always be something special about this town. This town of Washington will be the time that I destroyed something that was killing me on the inside and outside and I never thought I would ever say that in my life.
